This directory lists online therapists who name Narrative Therapy as one of their approaches. Narrative Therapy looks at the stories people tell about themselves - about identity, values, relationships and change - and treats the problem as separate from the person.

How Narrative Therapy works
- The problem is treated as separate from you. Therapists often talk about the problem as something outside the person, such as anxiety or the inner critic, rather than as a trait you are.
- The familiar story is examined. Conclusions such as "I am the difficult one" are treated as one account among several, and traced back to where they came from.
- Overlooked events are gathered. Moments that do not fit the familiar story, such as small refusals or promises kept, are collected and taken seriously.
- A preferred story is built up. Over time the conversation builds an account of your values and commitments that holds up in ordinary life.
What to compare when reading a listing
| Licence and location | Which states or countries the therapist is licensed or registered in. This decides whether they can work with you at all. |
|---|
| Approaches listed | Whether Narrative Therapy sits next to two approaches or ten, and what that suggests about how sessions run. |
|---|
| Concerns named | The specific things a therapist describes in their own words, rather than a general list of tags. |
|---|
| Years in practice | Useful background, not a ranking. Newer therapists often have more availability and lower fees. |
|---|
| Credentials | The letters after a name mean different things in different countries. Each listing shows them as supplied. |
|---|
| Languages | The languages a therapist offers sessions in, which for many people decides the choice. |
Common questions
Does this directory check that a therapist is trained in Narrative Therapy?
No. Listings show the approaches a therapist names themselves. We do not assess, certify or rate training, and we do not endorse anyone on this site.
Can I see any therapist on the list?
Only those licensed or registered where you live. Online sessions are still limited by licensure, so each listing states the states or countries covered where the record holds them.
How do I know whether Narrative Therapy suits me?
There is no way to tell in advance. Most people use a first conversation to ask how the therapist works and to see how the conversation feels.
Is this site free to use?
Yes. Some links to therapy platforms are partner links, and we will earn a commission if you sign up through one. This does not change what you pay or the order of listings.
